Elwin &Jen's News
chicken and doritos
Tonight we got a fine fried chicken dish served with doritos mmmm!
Jenny was told, that an old chinese superstition says whoever has the chicken head staring at them for the end of year company dinner will be the one to lose their job. Everyone cringes slightly when the platter is set on the table.
Another Story that someone told Jenny was the tail and the head are served with everything chopped up in between to 'prove' that you got the whole bird that you paid for.
Anyway, speaking about bird heads..pigeon heads fried and eaten with a tall cold beer are a delicacy!
lost city of snacks
FOUND! The lost city of snacks. Tribal twinkie sacrifices. Ancient wise hoho witch doctors. Pringle warriors.. Found in the back waters of the Lo Wu train station.. (grin) I don't know why this caught me as funny, maybe I need more sleep.
Chinese Coke
I haven't had a chance to blog much lately (unless of course Jen has been putting some stuff up here). So I thought I would take a second as I am sitting here in China to give the 'kids' at home a view of something they probably have never seen before. No, no, not a Chinese Coke logo.. but the old style pull tabs that old folks like me (over 35) remember. Back before the days of lawsuits because of ‘cut tongues’ we had pull tabs you would have to pull off of the can (and some would stick them back into the can before drinking, perhaps some dolt swallowed one, who knows). I remember collecting them and making cool chains. These cans make me also think of summers off from school, the heat and taste of a cold can of soda. Then I open my eyes and see the Chinese Coke logo, and know those days are long gone. Sigh..
kayak races
From our apartment window we watched sunday morning kayak races. There were maybe 100 kayaks.
Elwin and Jen with Proj. Jao Tsung-i
This is us with
Professor Jao Tsung-i. He is 89, his mind is a whip and he is so strong he can crush your hand with a handshake. This was quite an honor for us to have dinner with him. Simon (my boss) printed a book of jao Tsung-i's
prints and owns several. (which will be exhibited in Paris later this year). He is an artist, historian, and an expert on chinese culture.
Just like Pineapple in Paradise
Elwin doing his favorite past time. Camera phone chronicling.
Outside North Point MTR Station
Thinking about moving to this neighborhood.
We moved to Hong Kong in July '05. Much of this blog is being populated from our camera phones (treo650's) we hope that this helps us keep in touch with our friends who are now so far away!
